SEE OTHER AIRCRAFT EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE PLANE OR IT'S TEXTURES

There is a setting in CFS2 that will allow you to "see" other pilot's planes and the plane's textures even if you don't have that particular plane. Here's what you do:

1. Open the Cfs2.cfg file in Notepad.

2. Scroll down to the [MULTIPLAYER] section.

3. Change the "0" after the equals (=) sign in the following lines to a "1" as shown below:

    

   ALLOW_PLANE_MODEL_SEND=1

   ALLOW_PLANE_MODEL_RECEIVE=1

   ALLOW_TEXTURE_SEND=1

   ALLOW_TEXTURE_RECEIVE=1

    

4. Save the changes to the Cfs2.cfg file.

5. Make the file "Read Only" so that CFS2 can't change the settings back. That's it...

This is great for "squad" meets, as everybody will be able to "see" everybody else's plane and textures. NOTE: In order for this to work, especially in "multiplayer" mode on the Zone, EVERYBODY in the game must have these lines changed.

GETTING RID OF THE "UNKNOWN SOLDIER" TAG WHEN ENTERING VIA IP ADDRESS

I recently came across a way to get rid of the infamous "Unknown Soldier" handle that CFS1 and CFS2 create when you come into a game via TCP/IP instead of through the MSN Gaming Zone. It involves simply adding your handle to the CFS1 and CFS2 configuration file. Here's how to have your zone handle appear whenever you enter via TCP/IP:

1. Open the CFS2.cfg file using Notepad.

2. Scroll down to the [MULTIPLAYER] section.

3. Look for the line: SP_PROTOCOL_ADDRESS=.

4. Scroll to the end of the line and press Enter on the keyboard to add a blank line after this section.

5. Type in the following, typing your actual Zone handle: SP_PLAYER_NAME=Your Zone Handle

6. Save the changes to the CFS2.cfg file.

That's it...From now on, even if you enter a game through the IP address, you will always have your actual Zone handle instead of "Unknown Soldier"...Click here to see a photo of how the CFS2.cfg file should look like.

NOTE: The updates for the "collision bubble" below for the stock CFS2 aircraft will not affect the aircraft in any way on the MSN Gaming Zone when flying in a "restricted" room, only correcting the large collision bubble around each aircraft, helping to reduce the number of unnecessary collisions. Some anti-cheat programs like Fair Skies, however, may incorrectly detect and report the aircraft as a mod, when in fact they are not. 1. CFS2 Nibbio's Effect 01 - Ship Smoke Oil Slick and Wake (200KB). This modification of CFS2 provides a few interesting little improvements: longer lasting ship fires, with higher and more voluminous black smoke; they look much more like the real thing; longer smoke from all ships smokestacks; smoke and steam from the smokestack of the USS Yorktown. And provides longer wakes for all ships and a bow spray effect for destroyers, cruisers, battleships and carriers (US and Japan). By: Nibbio. 3. CFS2 Nibbio's Effect 04 - Flak Damage (136KB). Attempts to model flak damage in a more realistic way. As a result, you can expect to be hit by flak more rarely, but much more seriously. The only price to pay is that you don't experience those nice blast waves as often as before. By: Nibbio. 4. CFS2 Nibbio's Effect 05 - Flak Splash (136KB). Enables a new graphic effect, water splashes from low altitude flak bursts. By: Nibbio. IMPORTANT: The Flak Damage Effect must be installed before this effect!

5. CFS2 Nibbio's Effect 07 - Smoking Guns (136KB). Enables a new effect, smoke from aircraft machine guns and cannons. The effect is obtained by adding a smoke emitter to the muzzle flash effects. The effect is enabled for all aircraft, flyable and non flyable, human or AI and it has been successfully tested in offline play resulting in virtually no frame rate loss. IMO it's rather useful because it makes moving vehicles more visible when attacking them from the air. The cloud is enabled only for moving vehicles (the cloud is not active when the vehicles are added to a mission as infrastructure). By: Nibbio. CFS2 AI Aircraft Rear Gun Fix (53.3KB). This fix corrects the bug that prevents rear gunners to fire from the AI piloted Dauntless and Devastator. CFS2 Burning Oil Drum Effect (84.6KB). This is an object that implements a burning oil drum. The object is listed in the Mission Builder as a static object, you can place it where you want, for instance you can use few of them to mark a runway at night. This file also includes a small mission that is used as an example of the effect's use (and as a shortcut for those that want to quickly enjoy the show). I used 10 burning drums to mark the Henderson runway, using larger numbers may slows frame rate. Start CFS2 and enjoy. CFS2 Val Rear Gun Update (33.3KB). You may have noticed that the rear gunner of the Val never pops out from the cockpit, like the rear gunner on the Kate does. Joe Stevens and Gerrit found out that this is due to the fact that the Val has fixed gear. This is readily fixed by providing a non zero extension and retraction time for the gear in the aircraft.cfg. By: Nibbio. Also includes a mission where you can view a "sample" detonation, and a player-flyable mission where you drop a test bomb on the Bikini Atoll. NOTE: You must install both parts in order for the atomic bomb to function correctly. CFS2 Stock Aircraft Files (163KB). This is what I call my "Emergency Recovery Utility" for CFS2...This self-install program will install all of the CFS2 stock aircraft's original files, which include the aircraft.cfg, the air file, the damage profile and the .CDP file. If you have ever gone to the Zone and tried to fly one of the stock aircraft only to find that none were available, this ERU program is a life saver. Instead of having to completely uninstall CFS2, and then re-install it, this little program will re-install the files that most likely are causing the stock planes not to show up. This little program also includes the update that makes the AI, or non-flyable, aircraft like the B-24D Mitchell "flyable". CFS2 Non-Combat Ships Update (48.5KB). If you have tinkered with the Mission Builder in CFS2 you may have noticed that non combat ships don't follow the waypoints you assign; they normally turn until they are heading north and then proceed straight. This makes creating missions with convoys a bit awkward. The fix is very simple, it's enough to place a gun on board the non combat ships and they will behave correctly following the waypoints specified in the Mission Builder. By: Nibbio.
